The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a devastating head-on collision that claimed the life of a Belleview man early Saturday morning. The tragic crash occurred on County Road 42, just west of SE 160th Avenue Road in Marion County, leaving one dead and three others hospitalized.

According to FHP, a pickup truck driven by a 29-year-old woman from Lake County was traveling east around 2:40 a.m. when she crossed over the center line and struck a westbound car head-on. The driver of the car, a 40-year-old man from Belleview, died at the scene. His passenger suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital, along with the driver and passenger of the pickup truck, who were both seriously injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Understanding the Aftermath of a Fatal Car Accident

A fatal collision like this one leaves families reeling — not only from grief but also from the sudden financial and legal challenges that follow. Medical bills, funeral costs, and loss of income can overwhelm loved ones already struggling to cope.

When negligence may have played a role — such as crossing the center line or distracted driving — surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida law.

What a Wrongful Death Claim Can Provide

A wrongful death case is designed to help families recover financial compensation for the losses they’ve suffered. Depending on the circumstances, damages may include:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Lost income and benefits
  • Pain and suffering of surviving family members
  • Medical costs related to the crash
  • Loss of companionship and emotional support

At Campione Law, our attorneys understand that no amount of compensation can replace a loved one. But pursuing justice can help families gain closure and secure their financial future.

The Importance of a Thorough Investigation

In cases like this, determining fault and liability is crucial. Evidence such as:

  • Accident reconstruction reports
  • Vehicle data and impact analysis
  • Eyewitness testimony
  • Toxicology reports
  • Cell phone and GPS records

… can all play a role in uncovering the truth about what caused the collision. Our firm works closely with investigators, experts, and medical professionals to build a clear, compelling case.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What should I do after a fatal car accident involving a loved one?
Immediately contact law enforcement, gather any available evidence, and speak with a wrongful death attorney before communicating with insurance companies.

Who can file a wrongful death claim in Florida?
Typically, the personal representative of the deceased’s estate can file the claim on behalf of surviving family members such as a spouse, children, or parents.

How long do I have to file a wrongful death claim in Florida?
Under Florida law, you generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

What if the at-fault driver was also injured or killed?
Even if the at-fault driver cannot personally be sued, their insurance policy or estate may still be held financially responsible.

Can I still pursue a claim if my loved one was partially at fault?
Yes. Florida follows a modified comparative negligence rule, meaning families can still recover compensation if the deceased was less than 50% at fault.

How much does it cost to hire Campione Law for a wrongful death case?
We work on a contingency fee basis, meaning you pay nothing unless we win compensation for your family.
