Campione Law Successfully Resolves International Airline Passenger Injury Claim Involving Wheelchair Assistance
Jacksonville, Florida | Aviation and Personal Injury
JACKSONVILLE, FL — Campione Law, P.A. recently secured a confidential settlement on behalf of an international airline passenger who sustained a serious ankle injury following an alleged failure to provide requested wheelchair assistance during a connecting flight at an international airport.
The passenger had requested wheelchair assistance for his international travel itinerary. According to the passenger’s account, the requested assistance was not provided as he proceeded toward his connecting aircraft. While descending stairs leading from the boarding gate toward the jet bridge, the passenger fell and sustained a fracture of the distal fibula, a bone located on the outside of the ankle. Despite initial treatment, including immobilization, mobility restrictions, and orthopedic care, the fracture failed to heal properly, resulting in a condition known as fracture nonunion. The passenger continued to experience pain and mobility difficulties, requiring additional medical evaluation and treatment.
The case involved complex issues of international aviation law, including the potential application of the Montreal Convention, an international treaty governing certain claims arising from injuries during international air travel. Following an investigation, review of the passenger’s medical records, and negotiations with counsel representing the airline, Campione Law successfully resolved the matter through a confidential settlement without the need to file a lawsuit.
